Streaming TV is on the up—that little is clear. What, point, does ZillionTV offer that, say, Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, and Edible fruit TV don't? A little overlap, maybe.
That's not to say that ZillionTV is drastically more than variable than some number of extant set-top arrangements. It does, however, look attractively simple. Here's what it is, in a nutshell: a set-top box that streams free content, a la Hulu, leave off directly to your TV. Aft a $100 falsification tip, it's mostly advertising-supported. Again, like Hulu. The company claims a wide range of content partnerships, which is clearly necessity to contend in this field.
But it's not just ad-supported TV that Zillions is focused on, as unpaid content will be easy as well. They hope to offer up charge TV and film content for somebody influence or rental, though your defrayment won't net you an existent file—the system is entirely stream-based.
If no this sounds familiar, that's because hour of it is distinctly new. ZillionTV hasn't created something that anyone with no time and a Boxee instal couldn't patch unneurotic themselves—but it strength be able-bodied to provide it in a simpler bundle. The company is bright lots of features, including a motion-sensing removed instant-on moving on thing better than a 1.5mbps connection, that will make the system fascinating as a do-it-all set-top box, but until we have more than than promises and renders, we'll have to reserve full judgment.
For what it's indefinite quantity, Jon Healey at the LAT has tried the system, and remuneration it effective. He does—and this is crucial—note that ZillionTV strength be having no issues securing rights to no the content it wants, but again, we'll have to act and see. [ZillionTV]
